Ludin himself has a three game character arc that takes him from sniveling brat who wants to rule because of his birth to someone who understands the role of a leader, who he is and what his role is in the world, he reconciles his troubled relationship with his father. Once again making choices as the character would leads to the best outcomes. The one caveat is Bolverk himself is influenced more and more by Bellower as the story progresses. Later we learn that they value combat as a ritual experience. In the second game we follow Bolverk and the Ravens, who are presented to us in the first game as amoral mercenaries. Through out the game if you make choices along the lines of a father trying to protect his daughter you are rewarded. This is represented in the story by the sequence of events that the player goes through, first we deal with an encounter with just the two of them, then we have to save the village. The character of Rook always thinks of Alette first and the group second. The first time we see our main characters were presented with a terrified girl and her father whos trying to save her. You're rewarded with story moments, characters, lore, and achievments. While other games give you a blank character and allow you to make decisions as erratically or deterministic as you want, The Banner Saga games give you characters and reward you for playing as themselves. These games are my favorite style of RPG, role playing games where you play as established characters who have opinions on their own.
